I purchased this Fedders unit to replace a 10 year old, Fedders AC/Heat units of the same size for our 12' x 15' spare bedroom. I also considered the LG Heat / Cool Window Air Conditioner (LWHD7000HR) which had some okay reviews but unfortunately was an inch too tall to fit into the custom hole cut through stone work in our wall. Pity. So this unit was chosen first of all because of its size. Secondly because the older Fedders unit I was replacing (Made in USA) had given us such great service, summer and winter... and it was quiet. Having purchased this new AC/Heat unit from Target online in the summer '09 I haven't used the heating element yet so can't comment on its efficiency but it does cool the room very well. However, when the compressor is running vibrations within the AC set up rattling noises and these are IN ADDITION to the Very loud buzz of the compressor. Even the squirrel-cage blower motor is excessively noisy... and that is what will be moving the heated air in the winter. There is Very little difference between the 3 fan speed settings. Considering the excessive noise I would not recommend buying this model.
